Chain Saw Chains

The
first time I ever heard a name for chain saw chains,
it was the Oregon chain. 40 years later I still
hear the same name: Oregon chain saw chains.
These guys have been manufacturing chain saw parts
since 1959. I think they know a little about this
business or they wouldn't have been around that long.

What
Size Chain Saw Chains
Chain
saw Chains are purchased in bulk by many parts stores
and then they proceed to make your chains. When you
are looking for your next chainsaw chains, keep these
numbers in mind:
Pitch:
.325 or .404 pr 1/4" or 3/8" Guage:
.043 or .050 or .058 or .063
The
pitch has to do with the teeth and how much they carve
out with one chunk and the guage is the same of your
bar width which allows the chain to travel around the
bar. Make sure you match the chain to your echo
chainsaw bar.
You
have low pitch (LP) and chain saw kickback. Low
pitch doesn't take as much with each bite and the lower
the pitch the less likely you get kickback.
The
easiest way to determine what type of chainsaw chain
you have on your saw, get a pair of reading glasses
and look at the tooth. It will tell you the pitch and
guage. Sometimes you might need to rotate the chain
on your chain saw bar to be able to read the numbers.
If you are still unsure then take the worn out chain
in and tell them to replace it. The technician will
quickly be able to determine pitch and size. Many
tech's don't speak much about pitch because they only
carry one or two because that is the greatest need.
Manufacturers
of Chain Saw Chains
Keep
in mind Oregon, TriLink, GB all
make changes that work on different machines like: stihl
chain saw chains, Homelite chain saw chains,
and even a Poulan chain saw. Our local shop carries
Echo chain saws and I can purchase chains for any brand
of chain saw as long as the chain saw blade is the same
guage as my current chain.
Purchasing
online can be cheaper when you consider the price of
gas but it can be outweighed if you are already visiting
that shop or shipping charges. Make sure and check
out the shipping charges before you purchase online.
